Long Beach is taking an unusually coordinated approach to housing affordability: the City of Long Beach, Long Beach City College, Cal State Long Beach, and Long Beach Unified School District have formally committed to work together to plan, finance, and deliver new housing for students, workers, and families. Mayor Rex Richardson has made housing stability a core priority of his administration and signed an MOU with these partner institutions to accelerate production, align public and educational land for housing, leverage joint funding, and streamline delivery. This session will feature leadership from the City of Long Beach, Long Beach City College, and Cal State Long Beach to discuss how the Long Beach Housing Promise is moving from agreement to projects. Speakers will highlight specific housing developments now in motion (including student and workforce housing), how agencies are coordinating policy and land use, and what it takes to maintain a shared housing agenda across jurisdictions.
This conversation is designed for public agencies and development partners interested in multi-agency housing strategies that go beyond traditional silos and could be replicated in other California communities.
