The Village at Montclair Station exemplifies how thoughtful urban design and collaborative planning can transform a transit-adjacent site into a vibrant, connected community. Situated on 6.7 acres next to the Metrolink and future A-Line station, the project blends 350 apartments and 35,000 square feet of retail and community space around a pedestrian green, establishing a true live–work–play environment.
Drawing inspiration from the Uffizi Gallery’s spatial rhythm and leveraging Montclair’s Specific Plan and form-based code, the design emphasizes permeability, human scale, and architectural variety. This session discusses the collaborative process, policy framework, and design principles that made this integrated station-area redevelopment possible. Attendees will gain insight into how public-private partnerships and form-based planning can create walkable, sustainable, and community-centered urban districts.
